"The Coming Evangelical Collapse"?

In this article, the "Internet Monk" gives a chilling prediction (but also heartening, in an odd way) of the collapse of what we have come to know as evangelicalism in America. Before you reject his conclusion, read his reasons carefully.

I was fascinated to see that you are of the reformed faith and not a catholic. I am a recent convert from Presbyterianism to Catholicism (see www.reformare.blogspot.com) - my parents recently left the Presbyterian church back to my father's Dutch Reformed roots. The question I ask him - and ask you - What church will you attend when 10 or 15 years from now secular humanism/modernity/and a majority vote press liberal viewpoints into your church? What are you protesting these days? :) ~Deanna

Deanna, thanks for commenting. I haven't been on this blog for a while, but I'll give your questions some thought (and look some more at your story of your own journey on your blog) and then respond.

You can spend a lifetime searching and studying the numerous denominations and sects of Christianity, but if truth is your objective, and reason and logic your methods, ultimately you will choose Catholicism. And that is the only way the Christianity can be united, and how it was meant to be united. All religions are not equal, but are measured according to the measure of truth contained, and the closer they are to Catholicism, the more worthy they are. There will be elements of truth contained in other denominations, but the fullness of truth resides in Catholicism

The basis of truth is not found in a religious sect. It's found in the Bible, it's found in Christ alone. Do not spread false hope of finding absolute truth in a religious denomination that has diverted it's belief from the teachings of the Bible to the teachings of man. Any denomination that preaches works above faith is bringing forth a false gospel that will lead many people down the wrong path. Our works are like filthy rags before God. Nothing that we do can ever get us to Heaven. It is by grace alone that we are saved, by believing in what Jesus Christ did that we are saved. Our works get us nowhere on God's "good-o-meter". We are not good enough. Only through faith, a free gift, can we be saved. The scriptures state that it is by faith and not by works so that no one can boast. Find the denomination or person that preaches true salvation and then you have found THE TRUTH!

And if they are saved by God's kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God's wonderful kindness would not be what it really is--free and undeserved. Romans 11:6
